Day 01 IN – Jakarta
Upon arrival at Cengkareng airport, you will be met by the driver of your hotel, and transferred to Amaris Bandara airport for overnight.

Day 02 Jakarta - Yogyakarta
After an early breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward Garuda flight. Upon arrival in Jogja, as the locals call their city, you are welcomed by our Dutch or English speaking guide and our driver, who will drive you around Yogyakarta city. On the way you will visit Kraton, the magnificent palace of the Sultan. You’ll admire the colonial architecture of the Sonobudoyo museum, where an impressive collection of keris or snake daggers is on display. And after a stop at the local bird market, you visit the water castle Taman Sari before checking in to your hotel.

Day 03 Yogyakarta
Today you visit Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple site in the world, in the company of your guide. Afterwards you halt at the smaller but fascinating Mendut and Pawon temples on the way to Kembang Kuning village. After driving through villages and beautiful natural landscapes, our guide will take you on a 45-minute walk through a valley of rice terraces that leads up to a small Hindu temple. Day 04 Yogyakarta
After breakfast, at leisure until your guide arrives at the hotel. After your check-out, he will bring you to the beautiful Sleman district and accompany you on a cycling tour of the pastoral countryside. Your final destination today is the impressive Prambanan. This temple dates back to the 9th century and is the Hindu counterpart of the Borubudur. It was built in honor of Shiva, the god of regeneration. After your visit, return to your hotel and rest of the day at leisure.

Day 05 Yogyakarta – Makassar
After breakfast, at leisure until your transfer to the airport for your onward Garuda flight. Upon arrival at Makassar airport, you are welcomed by our English speaking guide and driver, who will transfer you to your hotel. Makassar (called Ujung Pandang between 1972 and 1999) is the lively capital of South Sulawesi, and because of its central location the city has been functioning as a gate to the eastern islands of Indonesia for centuries. Makassar also has a rich historical past, with two powerful kingdoms that were able to resist the Dutch colonial forces for many years. The Fort Rotterdam (Benteng Ujung Pandang) in the centre of Makassar is a well-preserved reminder of that past. Overnight at Grand Wisata.

Day 06 Makassar – Bampa Puang
Early in the morning you will leave for the district of Maros on the way to Toraja. Maros is known for its National Park Bantimurung-Bulusaraung which is dominated by impressive lime stone cliffs. You will be walking into this amazing area via rice fields and small villages. You will visit several well hidden caves in which you can find some pre-historical prints. By small canoe, passing nearby limestone cliffs you will leave this area and continue your tour by car. In a small nicely located village restaurant you will enjoy a homemade lunch. From the restaurant you will continue your trip for 4-5 hours to the small village of Bamba Puang, gorgeously located in the mountains.Overnight at Bampa Puang Villa.

Day 07 Bampa Puang – Rantepao
Via a small secondary and sometimes bumpy road you continue the first several hours in direction of Rantepao. You will pass through villages, see people working on their lands and enjoy the incredible views of this mountainous area. This almost 60 km long road allows for great walking opportunities, so it is up to you if you walk larger or smaller parts of this route – there will be hardly any traffic. Afterwards you cross the main road and follow this winding road until you turn to another scenic secondary road that will bring you into the heart of Toraja. You will pass Sanggala and the Torajan sights of Suaya and Tampang’allo, where you can see ancient graves and tau-tau puppets. You will reach Rantepao in the afternoon.

Day 08 Rantepao
Today you will hop on a bike to visit more Toraja villages and sights to get a good picture of the culture of past and present Toraja. These picturesque villages are located in an amazing mountainous landscape dominated by rice terraces and bamboo forests. You will see the different ways the Toraja bury their dead, like hanging graves as it was done in the old days and the well known stone graves guarded by puppets, tau-tau, high up a rock. Also the baby graves in the trunk of big trees as well as huge richly carved traditional houses with their rice barns will be on the program.

Day 09 Rantepao – Makassar
After breakfast, you will drive back down to Makassar by air conditioned car. This interesting and varied route will take around 8 to 9 hours. You will arrive in Makassar in the afternoon.

Day 10 Makassar – Pemuteran
In the early morning you are transfered to the airport for your onward Garuda flight. Upon arrival at Denpasar airport, you will be welcomed by our English speaking driver and strike out for a long scenic drive across Bali’s range of 7 volcanoes. On the way you’ll make a short stop at a local kebun, a Balinese fruit and spice garden, where you can witness the burning process of the famous ‘kopi Bali’ coffee beans. And high in the mountains you enjoy a cup of coffee overseeing the twin crater lakes Tamblingan & Buyan outstretched deep below you. Rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 11 Pemuteran
Today you head out to the Bali National Park. After arriving at the edge of the park, you board a local fisherman’s boat and sail on to Menjangan, a paradise for snorkelers and divers located 40 minutes off the coast. This small idyllic island is part of West Bali’s National Park and was named after a local type of deer that lives in its woods. After snorkeling the southern wall of the island, we bring you safely back to land for your return to the hotel.

Day 12 Pemuteran Ijen
Today you cross the Bali Strait to return to East Java. Upon arriving in Ketapang harbour, we visit the colourful fruit and vegetable market of Banyuwangi. Some 15 km west lies Kaliklatak. Here you will visit vast coffee, rubber and cocoa plantations. Centuries old factories still provide a healthy production and as a visitor you can still witness the traditional harvesting of coffee or clove, depending on the time of year. This area is situated at 600 meters above sea level, and the nature landscapes are breathtaking. Palm trees and tropical rainforest plantation form a natural barrier to the rest of the world. When you pass through the village, you will notice that thanks to the plantation the village, with its own hospital and school, can live completely independent of the outside world, and yet the local people are always ready to receive you with a smile. Then onwards to your next hotel. Overnight at Ketapang Indah.

Day 13 Ijen
Early in the morning you undertake one of the most inspiring trips one can make in Java. By jeep you ascend to the Ijen plateau. From there, you walk several hours before reaching the top of Mount Ijen. Along the way you will meet the sulphur people, local people who perform Java’s toughest job and carry baskets with 60 kg of the ‘yellow gold’ up to the crater’s edge and down the slopes of the mountain.
The exploitation of this sulfur is done at the base of the crater lake. Once there you enjoy breathtaking views of mountain peaks in the distance. The air is also full of fine yellow crystals created by the yellow steam rising from deep in the Earth. After your return to the hotel, the rest of the day is at leisure with your car and driver on standby. Overnight at Ketapang Indah.

Day 14 Ijen Ubud
Today you cross by ferry from Java back to Bali, where you depart from Gilimanuk Harbour, a small but busy port that services ferries between the islands. Upon your return to Bali, you head for Ubud, the cultural and spiritual heart of Balinese life. Ubud is renowned for the regenerative effect it has on the health of its visitors, and yoga sessions, spa treatments and massages are just a few of the many wellness activities on offer all across town. You will spend the next three days here. Overnight at The Purist Ubud.

Day 15 Ubud
A day at leisure. If you would like to see the cultural highlights of Central Bali, we can bring you to an ancient Elephant Cave nearby. Afterwards we visit the traditional compound of Ida Bagus Tilem, a well respected Balinese family of wood sculptors where you can try your hand at the art of Balinese wood carving. We then bring you to the holy springs of Tirta Empul, before ending our day with a visit of the colorful Antonio Blanco Museum. Overnight at The Purist Ubud.

Day 16 Ubud – Lombok – Senggigi
Today we bring you to Bali’s neighbor island Lombok. After check-out, we bring you to Denpasar airport for your onward Garuda flight. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by our driver and brought to a classy beach resort just north of Senggigi.
